“The technology is available—so why wait?”

Together with Bitkom, the ITHM invited its members to a major EU Business Wallet workshop. Participants identified pain points in the insurance industry and developed potential use cases across the entire value chain.

Getting to help shape a law in real time—that’s not an opportunity you get every day. And when you also have the chance to make tech regulation more pragmatic: a home run!

Together with Bitkom, we invited the ITHM Community to the major EU Business Wallet workshop at the offices of our partner company Hiscox in Munich. Following presentations by wallet experts Dr. Dominik Deimel (Wallet Experts) and Dennis Hannemann (Bundesanzeiger Verlag), we dove right into the practical aspects.

The participants of the EU Business Wallet workshop in April 2026.

Participants identified specific pain points in the insurance industry: costs driven by regulation, complex processes, and friction for customers. They also developed use cases across the entire value chain—from claims processing to sales and contract management.

The result: robust, practical proposals and problem statements that the industry association Bitkom will submit as comments in the ongoing legislative proceedings. And more than that: Participants are going home not only with feedback, but with the ability to take action.

Deimel summed it up: “Now is the time to be a first mover. The technology is available. There’s no question that EUDI, EU Business Wallet, and FIDA are coming. So why wait any longer?”
