The big pat on the back

Insurers celebrate the new technology hub in Munich. Jobs are not an issue.

Minister of State Ilse Aigner is ill. Politicians are represented by Josef Schmid, second mayor of the city of Munich, as the insurers celebrate in the Werksviertel, the old Pfanni site at Ostbahnhof. He is enthusiastic about the city's latest success: a jury at the Federal Ministry of Economics has declared Munich to be a digital hub in the insurance sector alongside Cologne. With public funding, young companies, the insurtechs, are to develop new technologies to make insurance better, simpler and cheaper. The hub will provide a link to existing insurers.
