Wayra and the InsurTech Hub Munich welcomed more than 120 guests on the topic “IoT meets InsurTech”

On Thursday 15th of November the meetup community gathered again on the topic “IoT meets InsurTech”. The host Wayra and the ITHM -InsurTech Hub Munich- welcomed more than 120 guests at an inspiring venue right in the heart of Munich.

Before the evening kicked off, Andreas Gensch outlined the purpose and importance of running meetups recurrently. The main purpose is to connect people and to learn.

Dr. Dietmar Kottman, Partner & Digital Industry Lead Insurance Europe of Oliver Wyman, was the first one who turned the “learning sessions” to a good start. He outlined that the impact of IoT will certainly change the industry landscape. Insurers now have the opportunity to gain more insights about their customers and associated risks.

The second keynote was held by Dr. Dominik Rohrmus board member of LNI4.0. He is a highly recognized expert in the field of Industry 4.0 and introduced the LNI4.0 initiative. For more information please also see his passionate speech here, held 5 months ago.
He highlighted the importance of supporting the German mid-sized sector in taking a courageous

role in digital industry transformation. Ultimately it is about coordination respectively cooperation among research institutes, startups, enterprises and politicians.

After the two keynotes the crowd was hungry to see startups operating in the field of IoT and insurance. In running order, the startups each had a 5-minute time slot to present their company. Here is a snapshot:

  • NavVis GmbH – is a leading provider of indoor spatial intelligence technology for commercial and industrial properties
  • Lola Health App – Your digital health and emergency assistant for smartwatches & smartphones – all in one.
  • Dynamic Components GmbH – digitizes conveyor systems by retrofitting hardware and software, enabling condition-based and predictive maintenance
  • Insight Perspective Technologies – a data analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling solution provider

The crowd then moved to the second “networking” part of the evening – exchanging ideas and contact details, getting introduced to other people, enjoying freshly prepared pizza and having beers.  To sum it up, the great thing about InsurTech Meetup is the combination of a diverse mix of people surrounded by a laid-back atmosphere.
